Game 4 of the American League Championship Series never started on Friday night. Rain postponed Rays at Guardians at Progressive Field and the announcement came after 9 PM ET. Cleveland and Tampa Bay will wait one night and try again on Saturday.
Game 4 is now set for Saturday at 8 PM ET in Cleveland. It airs on TBS, truTV and HBO Max. Game 5 follows on Sunday at 5 PM ET. Cleveland leads the series 2-1 and one more win puts the Guardians one win from the World Series.
The pitching plan holds. Nick Martinez starts for Tampa Bay after a 15-6 season with a 3.10 ERA. Shawn Armstrong opens a bullpen game for Cleveland. Tanner Bibee and Joey Cantillo are the bulk options behind Armstrong.
The market moved with the extra day. Tampa Bay is -112 at FanDuel, Cleveland is -104 and the total sits at 6.5. Cleveland pitchers own a 36 percent strikeout rate this postseason and that swing and miss is the biggest reason runs have been hard to find in this series.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt kept the message simple. "We have an opportunity to win some games and move on. And that's all we're focused on."
The extra rest cuts both ways. Tampa Bay gets a reset after scoring five runs in the last two games. Cleveland gets a fresher bullpen for a bullpen game. Saturday night now carries the whole series with it.
