Role
Duren is Detroit's starting center and the anchor of everything the Pistons do inside. He is a rim-running lob finisher on offense and a glass-cleaning paint protector on defense, and his 2025-26 leap to 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds a night is what earned the $200 million deal. He does not shoot threes, and he does not need to.
How he got here
Detroit acquired Duren's draft rights at No. 13 in a 2022 draft-night three-team trade with Charlotte and New York, then GM Troy Weaver's swing on the youngest prospect in the class. After four seasons of growth, including a strong 2025 playoff series against the Knicks, the Pistons ended the contract standoff on October 2, 2026 with a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million extension.
