Mike Evans Plays Through Two Fractured Ribs, Torches Seahawks for 113 Yards in 49ers' 32-29 Win

By The Sports Nus Staff | October 12, 2026

Mike Evans played through two fractured ribs on Sunday and turned in his best game as a 49er. The veteran wideout caught 7 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown, plus a 2-point conversion, as San Francisco edged Seattle 32-29 at Lumen Field to stay unbeaten at 5-0.

Evans suited up despite the broken ribs, wearing a protective vest under his jersey. Every time Brock Purdy needed a play, Evans delivered. His first-quarter touchdown put the Niners on the board first, and he was Purdy's most trusted target all afternoon in the biggest game of San Francisco's season.

"It's just what I'm here for," Evans said after the game, via KNBR. "Nothing's really promised in this game and if you're available to play and go out there for your team and do your best to help get a win, I mean, that's what I'ma do."

Christian McCaffrey was effusive: "He's a difference-maker. He's a spark. He's everything that you want in a receiver," McCaffrey said. "It's pretty cool when you get new guys and they continue to up the standard."

Evans also authored the most viral moment of Week 5. Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs was jawing at him, and Evans looked at the back of Diggs' jersey like he didn't know who he was. Diggs swiped at Evans' facemask without a flag. "I said who are you and looked to make sure and I was like 'oh, it's fucking Diggs', and then he mushed me. That should have been a penalty. It is what it is," Evans said.

The win keeps the 49ers alone atop the NFC West at 5-0. Seattle falls to 3-2.

What it means

This is why the 49ers signed Evans. With Deebo Samuel leaving the game with a hamstring injury, Evans became the entire passing offense: 113 of the team's 189 receiving yards. Playing through broken ribs in a hostile division road game, he was the best player on the field. The Niners are 5-0 and Evans is proving to be the offseason's most impactful addition.
