Game 1 finished 7-3 with 14 Guardians hits, and the market's first instinct is to expect more of the same. But Game 1's damage came against Foster Griffin, a journeyman making his first postseason start, and a Drew Rasmussen who ran out of gas in the sixth. Tonight's arms are better than last night's, and the number knows it: a flat 7 with the under juiced to -122.

Messick's October line looks ugly until you look past the ERA. Four earned runs, yes, but 11 strikeouts in 6 and a third innings, and a 2.56 ERA across 186 regular-season innings says the stuff is elite. Peralta has been Tampa's deadline steal and gave the Yankees one run in 4.1 ALDS innings. Two pitchers who miss bats, in a dome, in October.

The bullpens are the quiet under ticket. Cleveland's relief corps threw five innings of one-run, two-hit ball in Game 1, and Cade Smith, who pitched in all five ALDS games against the White Sox, threw a perfect ninth. Tampa's pen is rested and deep. If both starters give five decent innings, the last twelve outs are in good hands.

Betting angle

Under 7 (-122). The board's play. Two swing-and-miss starters, two trustworthy pens, and a flat 7 in a dome in October. Game 1's fireworks came against last night's starters.

Messick 5+ strikeouts (-149). Eleven punchouts in 6 and a third innings this October. He does not need a great outing for this, just a normal-length one.

Peralta 4+ strikeouts (-124). He missed bats in the ALDS win over the Yankees, and Cleveland's lineup swings. Four is a low bar for his stuff.
