The Brewers took the opener 2-1 on Sunday night, and the script was everything Milwaukee drew up. Brice Turang tied it with a solo homer off Tarik Skubal in the fourth, Luis Lara drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth, and the bullpen slammed the door: the Dodgers did not have a hit after the sixth inning, and Trevor Megill stranded two in the ninth when Mookie Betts flew out to the warning track. First postseason win over the Dodgers since 2018, and now Milwaukee is three wins from its first World Series since 1982.

The pitching matchup tonight is a different flavor of ace duel. Yoshinobu Yamamoto (14-9, 2.53 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 182 strikeouts) was brilliant in his NLDS start at Atlanta on Oct. 6: seven innings, one run, ten strikeouts. Logan Henderson (11-3, 2.47 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 110 strikeouts) has been Milwaukee's breakout arm, and his numbers against this exact lineup are loud: 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA, 13 strikeouts and 4 walks in his career against the Dodgers. At home he is 6-0 with a 1.84 ERA and a 0.77 WHIP across 44 innings. The advanced numbers back it: a .201 expected batting average and a 2.74 expected ERA.

The trends still lean Milwaukee. The Brewers are 55-26 at home and took the season series 4-3. The Dodgers' offense is the concern: they went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position in Game 1, stranded nine, and grounded into three double plays. Los Angeles has not had a hit past the sixth inning since Saturday. The Dodgers' bullpen remains a MASH unit with Brusdar Graterol, Blake Treinen and Gavin Stone on the 60-day injured list, while Milwaukee's relief corps is the healthier October unit. The champs are chasing a third straight title, but they are 0-1 in this series and running into a kid who owns them.

The total sits at 6.5 after Game 1 landed 2-1. Two sub-2.55 ERA starters, a ballpark that has played tight all postseason, and two lineups that just combined for three runs. Yamamoto will deal, Henderson has a personal hex on these bats, and the team with the better bullpen is at home. At plus money, the home dog that already beat these guys last night is the play again. Take the Brewers and the price.

Betting angle

Brewers ML (+114). The board's play. Henderson is 2-0 with a 0.75 ERA against the Dodgers and 6-0 with a 1.84 ERA at home. Milwaukee is up 1-0, owns the healthier bullpen, and is getting plus money in its own building. Run it back.

Under 6.5 (+102). Yamamoto (2.53 ERA) and Henderson (2.47 ERA) both deal, Game 1 finished 2-1, and the Dodgers have not had a hit after the sixth inning in two straight games. Plus money on another tight one.

Brewers +1.5 (-161). The safety net. Five of the last seven Brewers-Dodgers meetings have been decided by two runs or fewer, and this Milwaukee team does not lose big at home. Lay the juice for the cushion.
